Introducing ourselves

South Canterbury is being developed by the South Canterbury Development Corporation (SCDC). This is a partnership between the Billings family and GummerLeathes. The Billings family are Kent-based with interests in property investment, renewable energy and farming. The family has a long history in and passion for the county, with a vested interest in the welfare of future generations.

GummerLeathes is a master developer. We plan and develop beautiful places where residents feel a real sense of belonging. We start with people rather than buildings. We listen to a whole range of views and seek to understand different perspectives. We plan around parks and pitches, village greens and health centres, pubs and hubs, cycle paths and green spaces. These are the elements that enable communities to flourish.

Around these foundation pieces, we look at transport links, both inside and around the space. We seek to reduce carbon emissions in construction and long-term use, increase bio-diversity and improve existing facilities. Only then do we look at the houses themselves, which should be beautiful, efficient, sustainable, affordable and connected.

Alongside our own master development team we draw upon the expertise of industry-leading experts and consultants who share our values. At South Canterbury, they include Fletcher Priest, Stantec, Alexander Steed and Kim Wilkie. Everyone in the SCDC cares about this place becoming a cherished part of the city, benefitting existing and future residents alike.
